Wirral based acupuncturist. Trained and qualified with the
British Academy of Western Medical Acupuncture.
Wirral based; trained and qualified with the British Academy of Western Medical Acupuncture (BAWMA). As a Lic. Ac. and BAWMA member, I focus on safe, evidence-informed treatment, tailored to you. I am also registered with the Acupuncture Regulatory Authority (ARA), and I am currently undertaking a Diploma in Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) Acupuncture; bringing together modern clinical thinking and traditional principles.
Acupuncture involves the insertion of very fine, sterile, pre-wrapped and disposable needles into certain points on the body and sometimes in the ear. How many needles are used, and where on the body they are placed, will depend upon the condition being treated.
Western Medical Acupuncture is an adaptation of the traditional Chinese method and can be used to treat a wide variety of medical conditions, some of which are listed below:
Highly effective for pain relief, acupuncture stimulates the nerves in skin and muscles and increases the release of serotonin and endorphins – the body’s natural pain killers – and modifies the way pain signals are received by the brain. Electro Acupuncture (EAP) can also be used to treat some conditions (for example osteoarthritis and frozen shoulder), whereby a gentle electrical current is passed between pairs of acupuncture needles.
You might feel a small scratch when the needle is being inserted, a dull ache or a tingling sensation when the needles are in situ, but most people feel very little discomfort.
An initial consultation prior to the first treatment will cover your medical history and general health and lifestyle. I will also ask if you have consulted your GP about your condition, and if you are undergoing treatment with other healthcare professionals.
If you have a blood disorder, such as haemophilia, or if you are taking medication that prevents the blood clotting, you may not be able to have acupuncture. Please consult your GP before booking.
If you are pregnant it is generally safe to have acupuncture, but you must let your acupuncturist know as there are certain points that cannot be used safely during pregnancy.

“I am a long-time sufferer of level 4 arthritis in both knees which not only was debilitating as I couldn’t walk but put me into dark moods due to the constant pain. On a scale of 1-10 for pain, I was scoring a 9. The only respite from this was to go to bed so I wasn’t in pain. After meeting Helen, she guided me through what the treatment would involve and I began a course of weekly treatment. Since starting acupuncture with Helen, the arthritic pain has reduced dramatically and I can now walk with minimum pain, scoring a 3 instead of 9. My mental wellbeing has greatly improved. Helen is very knowledgeable on the benefits of acupuncture and without her help I would still be in that dark place. All I can say is thank you Helen for helping me get my life back on track.”
“Years of poor posture from sitting in front of my work computer and lugging a heavy suitcase around the London underground left me with pain and constant discomfort in my right shoulder, extending into my neck and sometimes down my right arm. At its best I would score it at 2 or 3 / 10 on the pain scale; at its worst, 7 or 8. Having never had acupuncture before, I was reassured by Helen’s calm and relaxing approach. She talked me through the whole process and, at each point, explained what she was doing and what I could expect. I have been amazed by how quickly acupuncture has eased the pain, loosened the muscles, and helped increase mobility in my neck and shoulder. After each treatment, the difference is immediate, and I’m sure that if I changed my working arrangements the pain relief would be permanent.”
“This treatment has been very effective for me as my job involves a lot of bending and stretching, and the treatments have taken the pain levels right down. I would highly recommend this treatment if you suffer from lower back pain.”
“Initially I had a lot of nerve pain in my left arm. I had to sleep on my right side or back, arm straight. This woke me often, as my go-to position is arm bent. Sometimes I’d wake arm bent and have to jump out of bed to straighten it and swing it to relieve the pain. This has improved massively over the last couple of months since your treatments started, to a point where it rarely wakes me and I’m back to sleeping arm bent. Sleeping on my left (affected) arm has been a no-no for 6 months. I can now roll over on to my left. It would still wake me if I fell asleep like that but I can now lean on my left without immediate sharp pain. Massive thank you.”
“I am free from smoking cigarettes for 7 weeks. I stopped after the second switch of the needle in the ear (2 weeks). Although there has been no actual need to touch the ear needle, I do think on odd occasions it’s a ‘crutch’ or has a psychological effect if you press on it.”
“The hay fever treatment seems to have worked great. So far I have had no hay fever symptoms, despite the start of spring being here. I feel the treatment has been very effective so far.”
